MANHATTAN POSSESSIONS

Friends Records is releasing the final installment of Co La's excellent Fugitive Of Leisure singles series this week, and though you may've already peeped the sweltering (and weirdly sexy) video for "Blood Orange Crush," or the lilting-weed shuffles of "Blanketing Marrakesh," it seems there's a certain wonky poesy to these warm weather tributes that is particularly realized when streaming a few at once. These rhythmic works seem to be gaining momentum with each release; must be because the bygone luxury-obsessed Matthew Papich leaks only the most lucid of popsicle memories inbetween the beats.

FUGITIVE OF LEISURE

New suitably sweltering video for one of Matt Papich's more ascending Co La jams. This ones for "Blood Orange Crush", a single out today as part of his "Fugitive of Leisure" summer series. Stream or buy it over at Friends Records and check out the guest mix he made us a while back if you missed it too.

Guest Mix: CO LA

MP3: Co La - RQ Melters Mix (55mb)

Matthew Papich and his Co La project's ultra-crisp, sample-obsessed rhythmic experiments are probably as linear and even danceable as anything he's done as Ecstatic Sunshine; totally jammed with light and a generally "stoked" outlook that Ponytail's Ken Seeno really nails in this AZ post. Matt's got a couple of releases due; one on Friends Records from Baltimore and another on Vermont's excellent NNA Tapes. This mix he made is actually similarly peculiar to his own tunes; light, stoned wooze in pop form with a subtle tropicality and a general eclecticism running through it all.

TRACKLIST:
1. Simon & Garfunkel - Feelin Groovy Live
2. Arthur Lyman - Yellow Bird
3. Brightblack Morning Light - Amber Canyon Magik
4. Psychic TV - Suspicious
5. Chet Atkins - Armen's Theme
6. Chet Atkins - Teensville
7. Chet Atkins - Boo Boo Stick Beat
8. The Shadows - Big Boy
9. The Shadows - My Resistance Is Low
10. Giles, Giles, & Fripp - Newly Weds

SUPERIOR TEARS

MP3: Co La - Long Shot
MP3: Co La - Dreamin' (Hair Splitter Version)

Ecstatic Sunshine's Matthew Papich sent over a bunch of new stuff he's been working on under the Co La title, reminding me both of the CMJ show we helped put on back in October (and this LOL photo) but mostly the dub advancements that he is so interested in discreetly collaging into serene rhythmic zones somewhere between Eric Copeland, Panda Bear and maybe Monster Rally. The wonked tropical images of some giddy and cheaply luxurious holiday these jams bring up aren't too far from the actual memories that Ken Seeno talks about on AZ; definite recycled glass bottle coke vibe 4 sure. Apparently this is the first music he's made that people actually dance to. "Long Shot" is from the new Deep Heterodoxy In Space (Red Ring Demos) release and "Dreamin" is from the slightly less new Rest In Paradise.
