STICKY HANDS

Seriously relaxing vibes from these two dudes. We’re talking down-home brass tones that sound like a Louisiana parade band having a lethargic jam on the verandah on a warm afternoon (forget about the fact that Bill Wells is a Scot and Maher Shalal Hash Baz’s Tori Kudo is Japanese). It’s a different, more relaxing kind of relaxed than what you’d find on most chillout compilations: it actually sounds like these guys were pretty mellow when they recorded it because it’s kinda shambolic and a little bit rickety. It also hasn’t had the shit compressed out of it, making it automatically one trillion times more soothing than Teardrop by Massive Attack or, y’know, Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead (srsly: why the fuck do those songs always get included on chillout compilations? They are hella not chilled.) In conclusion, how excellent is this line from Maher Shalal Hash Baz’s wiki page: “Tori Kudo has been cagey about details of his life before MSHB. He was once a member of a shadowy, revolutionary political party in Japan, although he has dissociated himself from politics since becoming one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He also works as a ceramicist.”
