NOTHING CHILLS

PROTIP: if you’re a cult-ish Australian psych band with a crush on Tom Verlaine and a half dozen underrated albums under your belt, it’s a great idea to get Galaxie 500 founder Dean Wareham enthused about your music so he puts out a retrospective of your stuff on his label. I have no idea how Dean Wareham found out about The Sand Pebbles, but nice work, Dean, because these guys are kind of the shit: snaky, slinky psych meets folk cascades and flower-punk freakouts. The really great thing about them, though, is how warm their records are. There’s something massively inviting about the particular way this band does vocal harmonies and basslines. This is some cozy, hot-chocolate-with-marshmallows shit, even when it’s a little bit creepy or spacey.
