MP3: World Champion - Dream
So great to hear this vein of downbeat ‘80s gloom-pop starting to take root. Wild Nothing’s Gemini was a 2010 record we could all agree on here at RQ, so us digging this jam from Sydney’s World Champion, the bedroom pop project from Michael Woodmansey, is kind of a no-brainer. Of course, this sound has been great for longer than that: the combination of those untouchably artificial synthesisers and maudlin ‘tude can sound either richly tongue-in-cheek or comfortingly sincere, depending on your frame of mind. Either way, though, you’ll be nodding your head, so everyone’s a winner?
