MIX: RQ Mix 013 - Huerco S.

Kansas City's Huerco S. completely floored us with this year's No Jack EP on Wicked Bass and its sludgy, diva-vocal sampling house sound. Offering a slowed-down, underwater twist on classic house, Huerco S. infuses it with a brittle Detroit edge that acts as counterpoint to its decidedly deep house inflections.

His mix for us casts a significantly less beat-oriented net, and offering up a couple of as yet unreleased tracks from the man himself, explores degraded and melting textures which coalesce over the course of the mix to something resembling rhythm, albeit a harsh and irregular one.

Having just released an excellent (and now unfortunately sold out) cassette on Opal Tapes, which travels through similarly deconstructed techno zones, we can rightly expect big things from this guy. And with a 12" slated for early 2013 release on Future Times and something out on Royal Crown of Sweden shortly we might be looking at material closer to the dancefloor too.
