I was especially struck by Afterhours' sultry, noir-ish take on trip-hop and slick-surfaced jazz from their recent Not Not Fun LP Sleepwalker, and this early jam that has just surfaced on soundcloud goes deeper into their lounge mentality. Marrying spoken word vocals with smoke-filled lite ambience, "The Heard Mentality" expertly traces a film-informed paranoid urban unease.
