It's taken me a few listens to realize how AMAZING this new Francis Plagne album is. It's definitly got something to do with the fact that he's only 18 or 19 or whatever, he's a whiz kid thinking forward seemingly more than most people who've been making music their own lives. I guess when yr young you want to usurp those babyboomer's and their traditions or maybe just push things forward or maybe just have fun; Francis Plagne, his second, does both with a lot of depth.
I talked to Robert Wyatt for a fairly long amount of time (well, 30 minutes) at 7am the other morning about his new record Comicopera and he's about 60 years older than young Francis but for some reason both of what they're doing sounds similar, not really aesthetically but just because of the way they're both about interpretations. Wyatt's a strange guy who excudes a similarly childlike willingness to explore and make it new. It's very refreshing, just like this Francis Plagne track sounds; poking it's head up, bright eyed, bushy tailed, whatever that means; THANK YOU BRIAN WILSON! THANK YOU KARLKEINZ STOCKHAUSEN!
