This all happened a few months ago now, but heck, better late than never. Quebec, those noisy Melbourne upstarts, were on their second jaunt up the east coast and they did me (or us, really) the honour of stopping by the 2SER studios to record some songs live.
It was a wet Sunday evening and they arrived late after a set at Newtown's Paint It Black. The plan was to record a whole set of songs to air over the next few Friday afternoons, but as usual, everyone forgot the capacity of power points to transmit sound. (We've all been there, right?)
We squeezed into the larger of 2SER's two studios (still a difficult task with a five-piece band and the world's biggest bass amp) and got 30 seconds into soundcheck before the guy doing the show next door began pounding on the soundproof glass and yelling for us to shut up. He could hear the music coming through the monitor speakers, he said. We were impressed and ignored him in a fashionable rock 'n' roll way.
After a while he convinced us to desist - threats and profanities are excellent negotiating tools. We managed to record three songs while he was playing music off CDs. Here they are for your listening pleasure.
