Zazen Boys' bombastics have always had the caps lock stuck on and spraycans set on pink, so it sounds pretty wacked when they come out on their new record with cold and smooth synths sounding all like The Radio Dept. or Junior Boys or something. They end the record in a similar way, sounding more like a neon lit Tokyo night drive than their previous messy and frenzied practice room, ridiculously colourful and often hilarious, fractured synthetically across teenage skies. They're best when they're doing the totally wild mathy blender punk, refined here through clean synths and electric chromosomes.
