FACE ANOTHER DAY

Pretty much a no-brainer, this: My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James (or, uh, Yim Yames, as he calls himself here), who sings like a motherfucker, covers George Harrison, who was renowned for his ability to write really good fucking songs. This EP, Tribute To, was recorded in 2001 when Mr Harrison died but for some reason is only being released now. Guess what? It’s beautiful. The six tracks on here are sparse, acoustic-type numbers featuring guitar, that heavenly tenor and the trademark Jim James reverb pretty much exclusively. It’s easy to see why George was Jim James’ favourite Beatle: this suite of contemplative numbers lend themselves beautifully to the earthy Americana he does so well. Classy as fuck.
