CHROME FEELINGS

God, I feel so guilty blogging about a track four days after Stereogum. Feels like people are gonna expect RQ to enthuse about Animal Collective next, or Tapes n’ Tapes, or Arcade Fire (WE’RE NOT). But there’s something about this new Apples In Stereo song I can’t get out of my head, and actually, I know exactly what that is: the total shiny, helium pop perfection. “The dance floor / Isn’t there no more / But my body’s still moving.” It’s all about shallow joys and deep hooks, and above all, miraculously, it’s totally unsullied by self-conscious art-rock embellishments. I kept expecting some grinding feedback or tangential melodic fuckery or annoying middle-eight breakdown to kick in and ruin it all, but no – it’s just pop, really good pop, and really enjoyable. Shit, I’m carrying my iPod around in the front pocket of my jeans so I can listen to it again when I’ve got a spare minute.
