Love the bait-and-switch at the start of this jam from Beaches’ forthcoming 7” – it kicks off like a lost Eddy Current Suppression Ring track before almost immediately opening into a cavernous, shoegazey expanse. It’s driving and dreamy piled with layer upon layer of distortion, yet somehow it’s still surprisingly tender. And that’s not a small deal – the guitars echoing off into the void and the not-quite-distinguishable vocals shouldn’t make the song feel intimate, but they do. This 7”, which is backed by the equally amazing heavy-psyche weed dream In A While, is launched next Friday at Melbourne’s Workers Club.
