GAS SHAKES

MP3: Mark Barrage - Rubicon Drive

Nervy, shimmering glitch pop from Melbournian maybe-genius Mark Barrage. Honestly, the production on Rubicon Drive, the title track from his new EP, is so brilliantly skewed it hurts: perfectly assembled, richly melodic, but highly-strung and almost hysterical. This is some of the most accessible music he’s ever released, with waves of synths coming on like a strobe and a drum machine pattern I’d call “plodding”, except for screaming tension that leaves this jammer feeling anything but sedate.
