LAND ECSTASY
MP3: Ryan York - All Our Favorite Colors
Moving forward from the similarly hush instrumental zones of his past work as Asura, Ryan York continues bunching the dense textures and gently waterlogged beats with vaguely folktronica designs under his own name. Quietly contemplative but hazy and skewed in a uniquely Los Angeles/ Leaving Records way, the new Zipperlegs EP is culturally embedded to a wide degree, grabbing influence from "Haitian rara, West African polyrhythmic musics, E.E. Cummings' linguistic flips, Bulgarian and Georgian choral traditions, Tibetan chants, Kwakwaka'wakw dance, the poems of Rumi, and, of course, the spectre of contemporary electronic production".
