BEATS SKIP + GLOW

Antipop Consortium - Timpani

Antipop Consortium have always pushed the boundaries of what I believed or expected hip hop could sound like. Incorporating abstract, stream-of-consciousness and sometimes nonsensical lyrics over beats which can vary from dense, multi-layered electronic compositions through to kraut-influenced minimalism, they've concocted the soundtrack to the future. Taken from their first record in 7 years, "Timpani" is dark, tense and cinematic - you just can't shake the feeling that there's someone or something out to get you. Though just when you think you have it all figured out and sweet release is just around the corner, they decide it's TIME TO FUCKING RAVE. You're transported into one of those clubs you see in the Blade movies but this time it's hella dark, grimey and the place reeks of sex. And just to show you that they've been light years ahead from the get go, peep "Ghostlawns" from 02's Arrhythmia. It's pep rally music for 2102.
