THE AMERICAN HEARTBEAT
Apparently Tracey Trance is a dude from Bloomington, Indiana with a big, painted organ and a suitcase full of vintage keyboards who travels nomadically, playing shows and recording and releasing tapes. If you think that sounds a little mythological, check the above track and become a believer - this pop romp is super fun, meandering some unique sound/landscapes through keyboard riffery; Eastern European gypsy carnivals, medieval castles, inverted Scottish bagpipe melodies. Strange, but it all kind of collides together perfectly; tape echoes, tinny casio rhythms and all. I like to imagine that Tracey's organ has wheels and he plays and rides at the same time a la Vanessa Carlton in "A Thousand Miles" through weird small towns and down lost highways with a massive grin on his face.
P.S. USAers: check out Tracey Trance on tour this Spring with fellow RQ favie Taterbug
