Mixtape: PARTY TRASH

MP3: Party Trash - Roses Mixtape

Previous RQ mix series contributor Party Trash / Police Academy 6 has hooked us up with his latest chopped & screwed mixtape. This is notably different from his usual source material of 80s to current r&b though, and sees him running classic motown and motown-style tracks through his syrupy fingers. It's decidedly surreal to hear how smooth this makes a really familiar track like "Baby I Need Your Lovin'", a sense that is then punctured by stuttering beats.

Download it as a single track above or head over to the Party Trash bandcamp where you can pay-what-you-want to download the mix as individual tracks.

Tracklist:

1. Intro
2. Al Green - Tired of Being Alone
3. Gene Chandler - Rainbow
4. Otis Redding - Pain in My Heart
5. The Temptations - Ain't too Proud to Beg
6. Smokey Robinson - The Tracks of my Tears
7. Jimmy Ruffin - What Becomes of the Broken Hearted
8. Four Tops - Baby I Need Your Love
9. BB King - The Thrill is Gone
10. James and Bobby Purify - Im Your Puppet

Also if you recall the Party Trash beat tape we posted about a few weeks ago, his friend has mixed together some of the tracks from it:

RQ GUEST MIX 003: POLICE ACADEMY 6

MP3: RQ Mix 003 - Police Academy 6

Police Academy 6 is one of the aliases of Murfreesboro, Tennessee based Joe Volmer (see also: Party Trash, Clearing, Virgin Spirit..). Under this moniker he has released a self-titled album on AMDISCS, which established a trajectory lying somewhere in the interstices of tumblr, 80s video-game aesthetics, post-chillwave and nu-r&b, covering similar ground to other RQ faves and sometime collaborators of his, Top Girls and Raw Moans.

His mix for us has a substantially clubbier feel, evincing damaged funk, warped and slowed-down r&b and hip-hop, as well as nods to juke and footwork.

BELINDA

New collab between two of our current favs (duh), Teamm Jordann and Police Academy 6 and this one really shuffles with that web art via hip-hop swagger which seems to perfectly manifest here in the videos digital anime volleyball babes.

RISE

MP3: Top Girls - Truth

My flatmate has been "thrashing" Top Girls x Police Academy 6's " Fill In The Blanks" and this new one (from just the former this time) gets in similar floatational R&B pop realm. Big on clean-lined design with a well-accustomed magaziney dreaminess, "Truth" has a similar blue-eyed grace to some HTDW jam on a more positive kick, especially with the rain sample drifting in at the back.

CRUSHIN'

Mike Day's made this new and definitely mind melting video for Police Academy 6's "Ayandeh". Lifted from the recent self-titled AM Discs full-length, it's one of the washier, downtempo new-R&B-infused songs and this video drenches it in the exact same blue hues as those melodies.

DOWNERS

MP3: Police Academy 6 - The Chills (feat. Raw Moans)

Police Academy 6 and Raw Moans are drifting pretty close to the faded Skylines sunsetters we posted a while back on this, a classic end-of-last-night's-party revery in digital that floats in the very internety realm that these artists are steadily cultivating, big on melodrama here but that's probably a good supplement to the haze.

WANTING SOMETHING

MP3: Police Academy 6 - Wanting Something

Two treats from the perpetually lush Police Academy 6 here - the above video is for a collaborative track the group did with Top Girls, and features clips from Top Gun mixed w/ some super stylized new footage which blends nicely with the new agey Enigma kick the track seems to be on. Also thrown in this new track "Wanting Something", a floaty, careful distillation of club atmospherics a la RQ faves like Bathcrones or Teengirl Fantasy. Look out for Police Academy 6's debut LP on AMDISCS this March.
