BIG BLACK SEA

Pretty dang great to hear Deep Sea Arcade go back to that kinda scratchy, kinda swaggering ‘60s pop sound that made that early demo of their #1 jam Crouch End such a golden classic of 2008. Not that their more recent experiments with hi-fidelity haven’t been extremely rewarding but seriously, when you’ve got handclaps and tinny drums and that Hawaii Five-O guitar sound why not just roll with it? Shit is scientifically proven to break hearts and/or move feet. Lonely In Your Arms is similar in vibe to the best parts of The Twerps’ recent EP but minus their naive attitude: despite the lyrical content and (at least initially) simple instrumentation this is confidently charming rather than awkwardly unpredictable, especially when the strings drop in at the end. They don't get around starting fights with captain of the basketball team; Deep Sea Arcade are lovers not fighters. Ace.
