TROPICAL/WEIRD FILM SEASON

Just a heads up for Newcastle/Northern English bros, I'm co-curating this film season w/ Kuba Ryniewicz, it's called VITAMIN C on account of these films serving as art/filmic supplements during the late Winter months. Emphasis on colourful films that perhaps approach the feelgood or just weird in an oblique manner. All films free in the Tyneside Cinema bar w/ drink specials. Been seeing some total gems at the Goteborg Film Festival this week but am curious to know how Harmony Korine's new Trash Humpers is (re: Mister Lonely). Anyone?

February 4: WEEKEND AT BERNIES
February 11: ZABRISKIE POINT
February 18: MISTER LONELY
March 11: KNIFE IN THE WATER
March 18: HEISSER SOMMER
March 25: TOGETHER

More info and synopsis at the FACEBOOK EVENT.

we joked about showing W@B's 1, 2 and 3 after we found it difficult to get rights/license to show others (ie. pink flamingos - no rights to screen it in england wtf). no dice though nick

really wanted to have MEATBALLS on as well but maybe next time right

aren't you getting sunburn by now? or are you still sunstroked :)

zabriskie point was a great looking film.... i couldn't take it seriously when it tried to have a plot though. pity about pink floyd as well...

actually saw an amazing portuguese/brazillian film at the goteburg film fest called "sunstroke" which was all empty swimming pools, lens flare w/ weird disparate characters. pretty good. but yeah andrew not much sun here now, all grey in fact, 98% of the time. true on the zabriskie point storyline as well but just love the canyons, heat wobbles etc

i wonder if that's got any influence on all this hynogazeglownufi stuff you'e been posting recently.

i really kind of want to like this stuff but i just cant really get into it. just seems all nice aesthetic and not so much... music/ideas.

with ariel pink it works perfectly for me cause it's the perfect wed between sound and song. i tend to think of him as being quite seperate to a lot of this stuff in a way though cause he's such a classic songwriter anyway.

who knows, i'm probably just scared that cultural nostalgia is actually catching up to my actual nostalgia.
