MP3: Twerps - Dreamin'
I guess Twerps have been doing some "growing up" since last time we checked in with them; they were previously some of the best exponents of that whole '50s-influenced garage pop thing (w/ alternate dimension superhits like Dance Alone), but on this new jam from their self-titled debut they've embraced a real widescreen, melancholic guitar pop vibe that comes complete with jangly guitars and strings. It's kind of an unexpected development for Twerps, whose best early songs were their scrappiest and most offbeat, but it suits them suprisingly well; especially with the hints of atonality in the chorus and frontman Marty Frawley's unstudied vocal delivery which keep things from getting too glossy.
Twerps is out in Australia on Oct 14 via Chapter and Oct 18 in the US via Underwater Peoples/Chapter.
